Later models of the MG 08/15 had a second bipod mounting location added to the front of the water jacket, just below the muzzle. This location allowed the gunner to employ the weapon at a slightly lower silhouette, closer to the ground. It was also found that the front mounting of the bipod made for as quicker employment of the weapon when the gunner dropped to the prone position.
