The barrel of the weapon was ported with four rows of twelve holes each, each hole being 4.76 mm (3/16th inch) in diameter. The total of forty-eight holes would reduce the velocity of standard ammunition to below the speed of sound. This would allow the weapon to use standard ammunition while still maintaining maximum sound suppression.
