This cartridge was adopted by the Japanese in 1893 for their Type 26 revolver. No other weapon has been found that was chambered for this round. It has a very thin rim. It has ballistics close, but inferior to, the 9x20mmR (.38 Smith & Wesson) round when it was loaded with black powder. The round is virtually unknown outside of Japan in general and even there it was declared obsolescent in 1904 with the adoption of the 8x21mm Nambu round. In spite of its poor performance, the round and the Type 26 revolver chambered for it, was still found in Japanese service to the end of World War II.
