A few years before World War I, in 1912, the French government was in the throes of a major criminal epidemic. To help combat this scourge, the French police turned to a new weapon, one that was going to become known as tear gas.
The 1914 model grenade was made of 1mm brass sheet, tinned on the inside in order to resist the corrosive effects of the filler.
