     This weapon was developed from the earlier PP-90 submachinegun to have better ergonomics and general handling characteristics. One of the major intents of the design was to have a compact, slim weapon that could be easily concealed. The PP-93 meets that criteria with there even being a holster made and issued for the weapon.

     To maintain the compact size of the design, the telescoping bolt has a large percentage of the bolt mass at the front of the receiver above the barrel. There is no protruding cocking handle on the bolt. Instead of a conventional cocking handle, there is a horizontal cylinder under the front of the receiver, sitting at a ninety-degree angle to the line of the weapon. To cock the weapon for firing, the serrated ends of the cylinder are grasped, pressing in the latch on the end of the cylinder at the same time. The cylinder is drawn back to just in front of the trigger guard, cocking the bolt to the rear. When the cylinder is released, it moves back to the front of the receiver under spring tension.

     The folding stock is thin and formed from sheet metal. It folds over the entire top of the weapon, merging smoothly with the receiver. When the stock is not used to brace the weapon, it is recommended that a two-handed hold be used to help control full automatic fire. The front of the trigger guard is formed to aid in bracing the weapon with some of the fingers of the non-firing hand. A laser sight and suppressor are both available for the PP-93. Each device can be mounted separately or together depending on the needs of the user.  In addition to the safety/selector switch on the left side of the weapon, there is a separate drop or impact safety that locks the bolt if the weapon is dropped or otherwise jarred.

The slightly rounded front edge of the trigger guard is to allow for a more secure two-handed hold on the weapon. Above the center of the trigger guard is the safety/selector switch. The switch is rotated so that it is pointing to the rear, the setting for semiautomatic. With the switch pointing straight up, the weapon is on safe and the bolt is locked in place. With the switch rotated to the forward position, the weapon is set on full automatic. The small loop welded on to the side of the receiver, below the back of the stock, is for the attachment of a sling. The small button on the bottom side of the end of the receiver is the lock for the extended stock. The button at the bottom rear of the trigger guard is the pistol-style magazine catch. The switch to turn on the laser is the small lever on the flat side of the laser mount, below the screw. The rudimentary sights are along the top of the receiver, maintaining the relatively smooth lines of the weapon. The stock is extended out and locked in place. Though lightly built, the stock is strong enough that it can be used as a brace between the elbow and side of the shooter when the weapon is being fired from the hip. The weapon is loaded with a 20-round magazine that is flush with the bottom of the pistol grip. The white “П” symbol at the top of the arc of the safety/selector switch indicates the safe position. The red O at the back of the arc and the red A at the front are for Semiautomatic and Full Automatic fire respectively. The weapon is set for semiautomatic fire.
